HP has always been confident that the 2133 Mini-Note would sell quickly, to the point where the company planned to build some two million units this year, and it sounds like that bet’s paying off — China’s Apply Daily is citing sources at HP Taiwan quoting worldwide sales growing 50 percent monthly. That’s pretty good for one of the more expensive small laptops on the market — we’ll see if that rumored cheaper edition moves even more.

HTC wars: Touch Pro, Touch Diamond and S740 go head to head

Now that the cat’s out of the bag it was no trouble tracking down HTC’s S740 this morning, and just for kicks we rammed the phone up against the Touch Pro, which we subsequently rammed against the Touch Diamond and an iPhone for a generally violent display of smartphone force. It is worth noting that while the S740’s keys are similar to the Touch Pro’s, they’re not quite as deep or clicky, which leads to a rather sub-par typing experience by HTC’s standards. That glossy mirror finish on the phone screens isn’t doing them any favors either — even when wiped smudge free it seems to impede viewing — and we must say the Touch Pro’s matte finish makes the Diamond and iPhone 3G look cheap in comparison. Oh, and when asked about the Dream, the HTC rep quickly replied “we don’t know anything.” It was worth a shot, right?

Remember those new Walkmans we saw recently? Well the folks at Sony have decided to get all fancy and official with them. The electronics-maker is introducing S-, E-, and B-Series PMPs, all featuring MP3 and WMA playback, drag-and-drop file management, and a variety of storage capacities. The 4GB NWZ-S736F and 8GB NWZ-S738F sport Sony’s “Open Platform” which allows AAC, Linear PCM, and other codec support, 40 hours of battery life, in-flight noise cancellation, and SensMe — which creates song shuffles based on user listening habits. The 4GB NWZ-E436F and 8GB NWZ-E438F come in a handful of colors and deliver up to 45 hours of playback, while the low-end 1GB NWZ-B133F and 2GB NWZ-B135F add an FM tuner and voice recording functionality. The players will be available come September, ranging in price from around $45 to $180.

Microsoft Blue Track Mouse

We’re not really sure if Microsoft is peddling a revolution here or just the mousing tech flavor of the month, but we’ve got ourselves a much better idea of where things might be going. After that little “Say Goodbye to Laser” teaser turned our pointing device world upside down, a reader spotted this MS Explorer Mini Mouse with “Blue Track” technology over on Amazon.de. Coincidence? We’re guessing no. We discovered Blue Track to be based on a blue LED combined with a wide-angle lens that’s supposed to work on more surfaces than laser and optical. Microsoft only really seems to be aiming this at the portable spectrum, hence the wireless adapter and miniature size, so perhaps Blue Track isn’t the end of laser after all.

Here is E71 - User Pros and Cons,
Having owned this phone for 2 days I must admit to being very impressed by it. I’ve owned many Nokia before and this is something special. The battery life is extraordinary.
Pros (Lightly covered) :
Remote lock - phone gets stolen, use mates phone to send a pre-defined code, phone locks, thief gets code wrong 3 times, phone get erased, Great!
Aesthetics - All metal, perfect build quality, feels indescribably ‘right’ (like the iphone 3g)
Speed - No waiting for apps to load, so refreshing for the impatient like me
Breathing status light - Thank you Nokia for getting rid of the mega strobe, smoothing white glows are the way to go, not ‘emergency blue panic’ strobes (more…)

Sony Ericsson W880 review

Sony Ericsson w880

Sony Ericsson W880 is the other addition to the Sony Ericsson Walkman line. Nothing uncommon here, I’ve seen lots of those. The most unusual thing about it though is its form factor - an ultra slim bar-shaped handset with plenty of cool features to offer. Take 3G network support, add a 2 megapixel camera, spice it up with a M2 memory card slot and Bluetooth and finally put it all in the slimmest shell possible and you will get a great result - the Sony Ericsson W880. HTC Dream Will Be Launched in October

Information has been leaked that May 6th may be the date that the world will see the first smartphone handset that will be powered by the Google Android operating system. The Dream, as it is called, will be released by HTC who is hosting an event in London which is where we believe the Dream will be making its debut. In the past, Windows Mobile has been the main operating system for their devices, so when we heard the logo for the event, “Witness the next wave of HTC Innovation,” everyone began expecting something big that will include Google Android.

Since HTC has officially announced that handsets featuring Google Android based operating systems will be ready in mid-2008. The event in London would certainly fit this time frame, so we will not be surprised to greet Google Android on the scene.

BlackBerry faces greater challenge in Asia

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Research in Motion (RIM) is a leader in wireless communications. Products include the BlackBerry wireless email solution, wireless handhelds and wireless modems. RIM is eyeing the smaller business user in the push mail market, but the BlackBerry-maker faces an uphill battle against competing platform Windows Mobile in the Asia-Pacific region.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Windows Mobile devices hold stronger market penetration, at an estimated 6 million devices shipped last year according to Springboard Research. (more…)

iPhone 3G review

iPhone 3G review

We spent most of the weekend putting the iPhone 3G’s battery life (and to a lesser extent, MobileMe implementation) to the test, and we’ve got far more encouraging results to report back than we had on day one. Pretty much everything we’ve found thus far jibes with Apple’s claims, if not exceeds them. (Our video results early on skewed low because we had mistakenly left on push and fetch data, which dropped the battery life by almost 25%. After re-testing, they’re back up to spec.)
